A series composed of seven paintings, created in 2019 with acrylic paints and mixed media, three of them are submitted here.
Each of the painting has their own title, and the three showcased here describe the type of love I’ve always embraced and the journey that brought me to create these artworks, a weird non-conventional journey that remains undefined to this day, especially while living my life as a lesbian woman outside of the binary gender categorization.
The first one “Friend, arise + The Sun’s chest” describes the indecision that characterises my existence and the love that, as a consequence, I have found in things and people in the search for my path. It describes the importance of letting ourselves be loved even when we’re not sure we love ourselves first.
The second one “Brasil” was painted after coming back from a trip to Brazil, in the moment when I truly understood what ‘Saudade’ meant. It describes the love for what is different and far from the world we’re used to, the love for life itself and for art and culture, the things that give meaning to the inexorability of flowing times and urban life.
The third one “Heralds of Grace” was painted in three sessions in front of my partner, letting the work flow freely without rules and planning. It describes queer love and our story, crowded by problems and, at the same time, by the desire to move past them all. Homophobia was a big part of it and presenting this painting seems natural and right.
These artworks are made with different techniques, their meaning is written in a personal alphabet; some parts are in Braille, to be touched by who wants to; I think art should be inclusion and participation.
To sum up, these artworks are showcased here because they’re a manifesto of what I believe in. Representation, Inclusion, love, care and hospitality are the foundation of my existence and I feel that right now they are also what the world needs the most.
