The rebirth of Venus

Sid Perrone

This artwork reinterprets Botticelli’s birth of Venus through a more contemporary and queer lens, celebrating the beauty in transformation and auto-determination. The central figure, inspired by the renowned goddess of birth and rebirth, carries top surgery scars on their chest: symbols of the journey to self-affirmation, of struggles and pride.
The shell they emerge from is not only a symbol for birth but also redescovery, a second skin that doesn’t hide as much as it reveals. The wind that blows is not only a divine breeze, but a collective breath, of a supporting and welcoming community, that redefines love beyond imposed norms.
The Rebirth of Venus doesn’t ask permission in order to exist, nor justifies their presence: it’s an ode to freedom, to visibility and the beauty of bodies that tell stories of resistance and authenticity.
